Acid-base titration

The rapid development of knowledge in the natural and social sciences - same day essay - confronts us all with new questions every day. Food and household chemicals such as cleaning agents contain different acids and bases - solve chemistry problems . The analytical methods for this are becoming more and more sophisticated, reliable, meaningful and accurate.

In this context, the clients are interested not only in the question - : "What is present in the samples?" (question of quality), they are also interested in "how much of it is there? (question about quantity).

A simple and yet very reliable method of quantitative analysis is titration, which has been used for a very long time to determine the concentration of aqueous solutions. The name is derived from the French term for content (French: titre = content).

Principle of titration

Titrations are based on the following basic principle:

1. a precisely measured portion of the sample to be analysed is dissolved in a precisely defined volume of solvent (usually water). The analysis solution thus obtained now contains the titrant, i.e. the substance to be determined.

2. a standard solution (solution with a known concentration) containing the titrator is added to this analysis solution by stirring or shaking it slowly and carefully.

3. the two solutions react with each other in a known reaction. The dripping of the measuring solution into the analysis solution is carried out with the aid of a burette until the equivalence point of the reaction is reached.
